Low energy lamps such as these use approximately one fifth of the energy used by a standard GLS tungsten filament light bulb to produce the same amount of light. This means that the consumer pays less for electricity to light their home or workplace, and that less electricity has to be generated thereby reducing the harmful polluting effects of electricity generation on the environment.

5W low energy lamps produce the equivalent amount of light (in lumens) as 20W standard GLS light bulbs.
7W low energy lamps produce the equivalent amount of light as 25W standard GLS light bulbs.
10W low energy lamps produce the equivalent amount of light as 40W standard GLS light bulbs.
15W low energy lamps produce the equivalent amount of light as 60W standard GLS light bulbs.
